May 2025 — The wait is over—Netflix has officially confirmed that “Extraction 3” is in development, with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as elite black ops mercenary Tyler Rake. Following the explosive success of the first two films, the third installment promises to push the action franchise into uncharted territory, both emotionally and geographically.
The Extraction series, based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks and the Russo Brothers, has become one of Netflix’s most-watched original franchises. Extraction 2, released in 2023, ended on a cliffhanger, teasing a broader conspiracy and setting the stage for Rake’s return. Now, the third film is set to pick up where that adrenaline-fueled mission left off.
Sam Hargrave, the former stuntman-turned-director who helmed the first two entries, is back in the director’s chair. Known for his gritty, real-time action sequences and long-take combat scenes, Hargrave promises to up the ante yet again. “We’ve raised the bar on every level—bigger action, deeper character arcs, and a storyline that goes global,” he teased in a recent interview.
While plot details are still under wraps, industry insiders report that Extraction 3 will follow Tyler Rake as he becomes entangled in a covert international mission involving a child trafficking ring and a rogue military unit operating deep in Latin America. Hemsworth’s Rake, now more battle-scarred and emotionally haunted, must confront his past while navigating new enemies and moral grey zones.
Returning alongside Hemsworth are Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa, reprising their roles as siblings and fellow operatives Nik and Yaz Khan. New cast members are expected to be announced soon, with speculation pointing to major Hollywood and international stars joining the project.
