May 2025 — The world of fantasy cinema is about to welcome a bold new epic. “The Great Hunt”, an upcoming fantasy-adventure film packed with magic, mythology, and high-stakes heroism, is officially in development and already generating serious buzz.
Produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Legendary Pictures, The Great Hunt is being described as a sweeping saga that blends the mystical tone of The Lord of the Rings with the dark intensity of Game of Thrones. The film is reportedly an adaptation of the second book in Robert Jordan’s acclaimed Wheel of Time series, expanding on the events of the Prime Video series and bringing its rich world to the big screen for the first time.

Directed by Chloé Zhao (Eternals, Nomadland), the film will feature a diverse ensemble cast, including:
- Rosamund Pike returning as Moiraine Damodred
- Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor
- Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere
- And new faces rumored to join the hunt, including Dev Patel, Lashana Lynch, and Riz Ahmed
“The Great Hunt” follows Rand and his companions as they journey across treacherous lands in search of the stolen Horn of Valere—an ancient artifact that can summon legendary heroes back from the dead. As dark forces close in and political tensions rise, Rand must grapple with a terrifying prophecy that foretells his destiny as the Dragon Reborn, a figure fated to save or destroy the world.
The production promises breathtaking landscapes, sweeping battles, and deeper world-building than ever before. Filming is currently underway across Scotland, Morocco, and Eastern Europe, with a theatrical release planned for Spring 2026.
“We want this to be the fantasy event of the decade,” said showrunner and co-writer Rafe Judkins. “This story has heart, scale, and characters that fans old and new will fall in love with.”
With high expectations and a growing fanbase, The Great Hunt could mark a new chapter in fantasy cinema—bridging serialized streaming success with blockbuster theatrical storytelling.
